Moodscaper — generative music for iPad

Moodscaper iOS app by Rob Jackson

I’m continually impressed by the quality of music apps for iPad and their price. Many can be bought for the price of a couple of coffees, and sound fantastic. I’ve taken advantage of the lockdown giveaways for animoog, tried some various other apps and am happily watching YouTube demos. This all led me to Moodscaper by Rob Jackson.

What is Moodscaper?

It’s a generative music app, suited for a certain sort of ambient music. It got great reviews from Sound on Sound and I’m certainly enjoying it. There’s a free version as well, if you really want to try before you invest. On the website linked above are free sounds and you can add your own.

It lets you play music by giving a set of well-matched samples and also limiting you to certain scales (Japanese five note in this case). It can also play for you while you relax, making it great for relaxation.

If you want the general idea, I’ve made some basic tracks and put them on BandCamp, the intention being writers can use them as background while they work. I’ve tried and it works for me.

The tracks are under the Artist Jon Seyton Conundrum, and the albums are:

Enjoy!
