As part of their 50th year in the business Hawkwind has realised their 32nd studio album All Aboard the Skylark. I’ve listened a couple of times and have yet to full digest. I am looking forward to the anniversary tour though! I do have an excuse, I’ve been distracted by the excellent free second CD Acoustic Daze.
Acoustic Daze
As the press release says, after the last tour Hawkind went into studio to do some acoustic versions of classic tracks. Along with what sound like live performances, Dave Brock &co has treated us to 11 acoustic tracks:
1. Psi Power
2. Hymne To The Sun
3. The Watcher
4. Generator Door
5. Micro Man
6. Intro The Night
7. Down Through The Night
8. Flying Doctor
9. Get Yourself Together
10. Ascent Of Man
11. We Took The Wrong Step Years Ago
Psi Power is one of my favourites, and I wasn’t sure if this version seemed a little hesitant. No such thoughts after a couple more tracks as some of this is magnificent. It’s the usual eclectic mix of tracks and a great listen. What more do you want?! If I had to pick just a couple it would be The Watcher and Micro Man. To my ears there’s more than a little synth on some of these acoustic numbers, but who cares?! Then of course Intro the Night is beautiful, Down Through the Night is magnificent and the last few tracks transport me to a concert in my own mind! Wonderful stuff!
Will there be some acoustic numbers on the tour next month (November 2019)? I’ll let you know once I’ve seen the tour!
